11-year-old boy drowns in Kupwara

Srinagar: An 11-yr-old boy Friday drowned in a stream at Kuligam area of Lolab in Kupwara district.

Reports said that the youth Rizwan Ahmad son of Ashiq Hussain Turkey hailing from Khurhama of the district was drowned in a stream late afternoon today.

The boy reportedly was on way to a nearby flour-mill at Shalagund area when the incident occoured.

Eyewitnesses told that the incident occurred while the boy was crossing the makeshift bridge. The boy while reaching the middle of the wooden plank (stretched across the Nallah), lost balance and was streamed down the gushing waters, they said.

Meanwhile, fate of the youth is yet to be ascertained with the large efforts being made to retrieve the body. The authorities have pressed Police, Army and other local administration on job.

When reports last came in, the authorities have suspended the search operation for night. The rescue operation will now be resumed tomorrow morning.
