Srinagar: In a throwback to 90s, Government Forces on Thursday cracked down on General Bus Stand Batamaloo and forced passengers, drivers and office bearers of Transport Office to come out assemble in bus yard.
According to the eyewitnesses, Jammu Kashmir Police personnel along with para-military troopers suddenly cordoned off General Bus Stand Batamaloo at around 12:30 in the afternoon and launched a thorough search operation in the bus yard.
The government forces, according to eyewitnesses, forced into passenger vehicles and demanded identity cards from the people. People were made to assemble at one place while troopers searched vehicles and transport offices.
During the crackdown, the vehicular movement on the roads came to a halt while passengers and pedestrians outside the bus stand were seen fleeing from the spot. It is a routine checking to keep peace disturbing elements at bay, said a police official present on spot.
Pertinently, government forces have intensified search operations in wake of scheduled visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will address a rally on November 7 at Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium Srinagar.
