Srinagar: Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded for the second day today on the Mughal road which was closed for traffic following snowfall and slippery conditions.
Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region remained closed following fresh snowfall at Pir-ki-Gali, Bafliaz and other places.
At some places, there was more than one and half a feet of snowfall, besides, landslides, report stated.
Local administration has pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to put through the road, being seen as alternative to Srinagar-Jammu national highway.
About one hundred vehicles, struck in the snowbound area, were rescued to safer places.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) said movement of all types of vehicles on Sonamarg Drass road, linking Ladakh region with Kashmir valley, shall be allowed between 0700 hrs and 2100 hrs only on daily basis.
