SRINAGAR: Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kashmir, Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, Tuesday stressed on the importance of remembering and recognizing the contributions of people who have excelled in different fields and drawing inspiration from them.
Speaking after presiding over Prof Qazi Ghulam Mohammad Memorial Lecture in the University, Prof Andrabi said it was important to recognize contributions of our predecessors and draw inspiration from them to move forward in life.
Personalities like Prof Qazi Ghulam Mohammad laid down standards and benchmarks vis-à-vis ethics, discipline and commitment that we all must follow, he said.
The lecture was organized by the Universitys Iqbal Institute of Culture and Philosophy (IIPC) in memory of Prof Qazi Ghulam Mohammad, a former professor of varsitys Mathematics Department and a well-known literary figure.
The lecture was delivered by renowned poet, Prof Rehman Rahi, who dealt at length on life, works and contributions of Late Prof Qazi.
Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Mohammad Ashraf Wani, said the event is historical because it is for the first time we are holding a memorial lecture of this kind.
Such events are not only a tribute to our great personalities, but are relevant for us and youngsters as well, he said.
He complimented the VC and IIPC Director, Prof Bashir Ahmad Nehvi, for organizing the lecture.
