KUPWARA: Police are investigating an alleged molestation bid by a halqa president in North Kashmirs Kupwara district belonging to the ruling coalition partner Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) here today.
According to the police sources, a lady (name withheld) lodged a complaint against one Shabir Ahmad Lone s/o late Mohammad Yusuf Lone and Fayaz Ahmad Bhat alias Fayaz Battery, both residents of Kupwaras Herri Bala for alleged molestation. Lone has been identified as PDPs Halqa president.
A lady filed a complaint against the duo in which investigation is going on, a police official of Kupwara station said, adding, the lady has charged the duo of outraging her modesty while she was alone at her home a few days ago around 3.00 pm.
The lady reportedly shouted for help alerting her neighbours who prevented the heinous crime from happening.
Police have filed an FIR in the case under sections, 511, 451 (attempt to rape) and arrested the duo.
The duo has been denied an anticipatory bail, a local informed.
Meanwhile, PDPs Rajya Sabha member from Kupwara, Fayaz Ahmad Mir said that the accused PDP member, Shabir Lone was not the PDPs halqa President, but simply a party voter, who has shifted his loyalties to NC now.
