“The suspects set her afire at around 2.00 in the afternoon and then locked her in a room till evening,” said Farooq Ahmad, another relative of Shokey.

Taking cognizance of the issue, Local MLA, Advocate Mohammad Yusuf Bhat, rushed to the district hospital Shopian and enquired about the victim’s condition.

Police are reported to have begun the investigation into the incident.

After giving her first aid, the patient was rushed to SMHS Srinagar for specialized treatment. “The condition of the patient was very critical,” one of the relatives said.
