Will allow no illegal construction in Srinagar city
Srinagar: Minister of State for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies Muhammad Ashraf Mir in a bid to review the progress of Srinagar Municipal Corporation activities chaired a meeting at central office SMC that was attended by officers of different wings of the department.
Mir took a review of various works and the steps taken by SMC for the improvisation of sanitation, solid waste management, Building Permissions, Birth and Death Certification, Revenue and the other related functioning.
On the occasion, the Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Tufail Matto apprised the Minister about the progress and functioning of various ongoing schemes launched by the corporation for better sanitation and beautification of Srinagar City through a power point presentation.
Commissioner SMC informed various steps have been taken for the improvement of solid waste management, drainage and sewerage system besides beautification of Srinagar city.
The Minister exhorted upon the officers to ensure that all activities being executed under their respective wings are done within the specified time-frame and in more efficient and transparent manner.
He asked them to conduct regular site visits and make sure that quality and quantity of works is maintained at all levels in a time bound manner.
Mir further stressed that all the pendencys on account of Right and Left river developmental works, including building permissions, drainage, street lights and other related functions shall be disposed of at an earliest.
While taking stock of drainage works, S.E Drainage updated the Minister about the various ongoing drainage schemes in the city and presented general abstract showing details of these schemes.
On receiving feedback Mir directed the concerned division to speed up with the pending work and assured the immediate assistance required to cater to the prone areas of submergence shall be taken care of.
Minister further enjoined upon the SMC authorities to make the best use of E-governance so that common masses can get building permissions, death and birth certificates, and all other necessary documents without any difficulty.
Speaking tough on violations and illegal constructions Minister gave clear cut directions that no violations and illegal constructions shall come up anywhere in the city.
The officials both at Ward and Enforcement level showing negligence on illegal constructions and those who would be found hand in glove with the violators shall not be spared only by suspending, transferring or posting to other places but their termination would strictly be recommended to the Govt.
I am strictly monitoring this function and no mischief shall be tolerated on account of issuing building permissions and making violations in the sanctioned plan “,said Mir.
During the course of the meeting Mir also emphasized on awareness programs and counselling sessions to be organized for improvisation of sanitation in the city. (CNS)
