Srinagar: The Non-Visual Desktop Access (NVDA)a screen reader that enables visually-impaired persons to read text on desktop through computerized voiceshall support Kashmiri language in next two months, an expert said on Monday.
Mobid Homiyar, CEO of National Association for Blind (NAB) New Delhi, said the NVDA supports 12 Indian languages including Urdu, and also support Kashmiri language in two months. We are working on it, he said.
Homiyar was speaking at the inaugural function of the three-day Non-Visual Desktop Access workshop at the University of Kashmir. The idea of this workshop is to ensure that visually-impaired persons have access to education so that they are able to create a place for themselves in the society with honour and dignity, he said. We would teach the participants how technology would support their education and how they can make their careers with mobility and technical knowhow.
