Srinagar: People on Thursday accused the Srinagar Municipal Corporation of not preventing encroachment on the footpaths by shopkeepers from Bota Kadal to Lal Bazar here.
The area is without any pedestrian walkway because the footpaths have been allowed to be misused by shopkeepers and vendors, they said.
The traders expressed concern over the possibility of accidents by the lack of pedestrian space in the areas.
Since people dont have a proper space to walk, they walk on the busy main road, therefore becoming vulnerable to accidents, the people said, accusing the SMC of inaction.
So far, SMC has shown no interest in acting against the wrongdoers, even as the encroachments are visible to everyone, they said.
Meanwhile, SMC Commissioner Tufail Matoo promised action against the offenders.
