5 Sisters, 3 Brothers Among The Dead
BUDGAM: Thousands of people on Tuesday bid a tearful adieu to sixteen members of two families who were buried alive after their houses collapsed due to landslip in Chadoora area of Budgam on Monday.
All the sixteen bodies were retrieved on Tuesday from the debris of two houses that collapsed in Ladden village in Chadoora a day earlier.
A pall of gloom descended on the village after 16 coffins, carrying five sisters, three brothers and their parents were taken out for burial on Tuesday morning.
Tens of thousands of people participated in the joint funeral of the deceased who include among others an infant of 24 days and his parents.
Those laid to rest have been identified as eight siblings including Naseema (18), Shahida (16), Shugufta (15), Fareeda (14), Bisma (9) and three brothers Reyaz Ahmad (22), Bilal (13), Iqbal (12) and their parents Ghulam Nabi and Zaina Begium.
Others include Mohammad Shaban, his wife Rukhsana (21), their son Aslam (24 days) and two sisters of Shaban, Naseema (18) and Shehmeeza (9).
