SRINAGAR: Authorities on Wednesday said that the Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir with the outside world, shall remain closed for vehicular traffic from Friday afternoon till Sunday morning in view of road maintenance.
A senior traffic police official said that from 1500 Hrs on 27th March till March 28th, the highway shall remain closed.
The workers of the BRO will be pressed into service to repair the damages caused by the recent landslides on the highway at Magarkote that has sunk and other bottlenecks which could not be addressed earlier by the concerned authority due to continuous flow of traffic on NHW-IA after it was temporally restored for one way traffic, he said.
Keeping in view the road maintenance, no vehicle shall be permitted to ply on the highway during the period; he said and urged people to cooperate with the authorities in repairing thoroughfare.
Meanwhile, weather officials have foretasted scattered rains in the state on March 27 and 28.
