Srinagar:Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a burglar and recovered large quantity of stolen goods from his possession from Kangan area of central Kashmirs Ganderbal district.
SDPO, Kangan, Mushtaq Choudhary while talking to reporters said that a police team headed by SHO Kangan Rayees Hassan during a routine naka stopped an auto rickshaw. After being stopped the vehicle, the driver was seen in a suspicious position who was later detained by the police party.
During checking, large quantity of goods was found inside the load carrier. The load carried was stolen from Kotibagh area of Srinagar, the officer said.
During sustained questioning, the driver disclosed that he had stolen the load carried and later used the same to commit burglary of a shop in Kangan during the intervening night of 16/17 March.
The gang has many members. Their modus operandi was to steal a vehicle, mostly from Srinagar city, and use the same for burglaries in far flung areas of Valley, the officer said, adding Later the gang would dispose of the stolen goods at another places,
The officer identified the accused as Sher Jaan of Arigam, Bandipora at present Nishat here. He said manhunt is on to nab other members of the gang.
The officer said that the police had received several complaints about burglary in the area. He said with the arrest of Sheraz, police was hopeful to solve many burglary cases.
A case under FIR no. 15/2015 under section 457, 380 was registered and further investigations taken up, he said.
