SRINAGAR, MARCH 14: To ensure better traffic management in the Valley, the Minister of State for Industries & Commerce, Power, Housing and Urban Development, Mohammad Ashraf Mir today convened a high level meeting in Winter Secretariat for road widening of National Highway at Pantha Chowk.
The Minister sought suggestions from the District Administration regarding widening of National Highway near Pantha Chowk. He was informed that District Administration has already taken steps for widening of road at Pantha Chowk and a committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Srinagar for the rehabilitation of the affectees.
He was informed that District Administration has already released an amount of Rs. 10 crores for the rehabilitation of house owners while affected shop owners have also been rehabilitated by way of providing alternate shops.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Chief Engineer Power and other concerned officers.
The Minister urged the officers to remove all the encroachments and hurdles at Pantha Chowk to reduce the frequency of traffic jamming in the area. He asked the officers to synergise their efforts to widen the road at Pantha Chowk to make it enabler for smooth movement of traffic.
