Srinagar: Admitting that there was a deep rooted corruption in the regional transport offices in the state, Transport Minister Abdul Gani Kohli Friday vowed that government will never allow such practices.
Talking to KNS, he hinted there are reports that many officials in the RTOs are involved in the corruption. Corruption is deep rooted in the offices of RTOs. But I can assure the people that I will never allow such practices. I request people to inform me directly if they find any malpractice taking place in the RTOs, he said.
The Minister advised public to come forward themselves to get their work done without offering bribe to any official. Self help is the best help. Do not involve employees in bribery for the sake of shortcuts, he said
Asked if there is any plan to create one-window clearance system in the RTOs, Kohli said the government will try its best to create the said system.
We will send a letter to all RTOs asking them to get rid of agents in the transport offices. There are reports that the touts play main role in increasing the corrupt practices in the RTOs. Instructions will be soon forwarded to all the offices in order to curb the corruption, he said and added that he will also visit all the Regional transport offices and will take disciplinary action if this anti-people and undemocratic practice is found.
The minister also claimed that his ministry will come with a new motor vehicle bill. The government will introduce New Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill to end malpractices in RTOs across the state. The Amendment Bill will be formed as per the best practices of developed countries, he said and added that government will bring total transparency and easy and hassle-free services will be made available to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
