Mufti has right to take any decision
SRINAGAR: In an interesting development, National Conference Thursday asked New Delhi to stop harassing and distressing elected Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and stop dealing with the subjects that are exclusive preserve of the state.
Mufti Muhammad Sayeed is not an autocrat but a Chief Minister who has been elected by the people of Kashmir. People have given him authority to take decisions in the State. Centre has no right to challenge and raise hue and cry over the decisions taken by him, former member parliament and National Conference senior leader Sharifudin Sharik said adding that New Delhi was treating Kashmir as its colony.
It was not however clear if this was Shariqs personal opinion or partys official position.
Kashmir is not a colony of India. It has its own elected Chief Minister who has right to take decisions. Centre is not only challenging the authority of Chief Minister but also giving an impression to the people of Kashmir that they are the slaves of India upon whom all decisions will be thrust upon from New Delhi, he said.
Castigating New Delhi for over-reacting on the release of Masarat Aalam, Shariq said that Masarat was arrested by State Police and it was the state court that ordered his release, so Centre has no right to intervene into the matter. Centre is not only challenging the authority of elected Chief Minister, but it is also challenging the authority of Jammu and Kashmir Constitution. Unnecessarily, New Delhi is creating hurdles for Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and is not allowing him to work for the betterment of the people. So what I am from National Conference and no doubt i dont see eye to eye with the State Chief Minister but I believe that Centre is undermining the Muftis authority and it can prove fatal in coming years, he said.
Former parliament member admitted that New Delhi does not trust the people of Kashmir. When Tamil Nadu Chief Minister passed a resolution in favour of the killers of Rajiv Gandhi, Centre then acted as a lamb and did not bother to issue even a statement and neither did any Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha member raised hue and cry over the issue. But when the State released Masarat Aalam, everyone started barking and gave impression that Kashmir is Indias colony, he said.
He said that it was high time for the Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and his party to pass a resolution in the State Assembly to condemn the attitude and behaviour of New Delhi and castigate it for undermining the authority of Chief Minister of the State. CNS
