Srinagar: The district authorities Monday ordered an enquiry to probe the allegations of negligence by the doctors at a hospital in Pulwama that caused the death of a woman and her baby triggering strong protests by her family.
I will probe the allegations of death of a woman and her baby at the district hospital. I have shifted medical superintendent. I will be visiting the hospital Tuesday to investigate the matter, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Niraj Kumar told GNS.
He said that anyone found guilty will be sternly dealt with. He said he has been receiving complaints of misconduct by the staffers of the hospital.
I have even heard that the woman died when the doctors were in entertainment mood after watching a world cup match. This is unacceptable, he said.
Pertinently, Ruksana Akhter (22) wife of Imtiyaz Bhat of Wahibugh, Pulwama was brought to the district hospital by her relatives for pregnancy complications on Thursday. The doctors told the family that the woman would be operated upon on the next day.
During the intervening night of March 7, Ruksana gave birth to a baby boy. However, hours later the baby died and in the meantime the woman started bleeding. She was rushed to Srinagars Lal Ded hospital last night around 11:00 pm. However, she died in LD hospital at around4:00 am.
Ghulam Hassan Bhat, the father of the deceased alleged that there was negligence on part of doctors leading to the death of the baby and her daughter. (GNS)
