JAMMU: Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Syeed Monday said that he stands by his statement on violence free polls in the state.
Reacting to the controversy about his comments on JK polls he said, Media has created confusion over my statement.
I want to say this on record that we must credit the Hurriyat, Pakistan for recognizing the Jammu and Kashmirs democratic right under the Indian constitution and allow conducive atmosphere for Assembly polls, he told reporters outside the Jammu Assembly Complex.
It is pertinent to mention here that soon after taking oath on Sunday, Mufti said credit must be given to people from across the border, an oblique reference to Pakistan, Hurriyat and militants for allowing conducive atmosphere for assembly polls.
Meanwhile distancing itself from the CMs statement, BJPs Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh said that it was due to the people of Jammu and Kashmir who despite the threats casted their vote in large numbers. I must say that the peaceful election was due to the people of Jammu and Kashmir who despite the threats casted their vote in large numbers, Deputy CM told KNS.
Muftis statement also led to furore in the Parliament, with the opposition forcing home minister Rajnath Singh to clarity that the government fully dissociated itself from the statement.
The credit for smooth polls in JK goes to Election Commission, Army, Paramilitary forces and people of the state, the home minister said.
