SRINAGAR: Organised by Gallerie One in association with KashmirBox.Com a 2 day business development and networking event, Kashmir Design Summit 2015 was thrown open here on Monday.
The event was inaugurated by DC Srinagar, Mr. Farooq Ahmed Lone.
“This is a very important and a brave initiative and we must do everything in our capacity to support such events,” he said after interactions with various exhibitors.
Over 15 leading and emerging entrepreneurs of the valley from various sectors, such as E-Commerce, Fashion Design, Web Design, Interior Design, Architecture, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Graphics etc, are showcasing their products and services.
The event was envisioned by the research centre at Gallerie One that aims to explore the knowledge-based creative economy in Kashmir. Through this summit various industry players will be able to form strong industry networks which will mature in future partnerships and collaborations, and innovative business development. The summit also attracted a huge crowd of prospective clients. The research centre is also developing professional development programmes for young entrepreneurs tailored to the situations in Kashmir, and therefore enable growth based on scientific principles.
“Because of the post-flood situation, hundreds of crores will be spent in the coming year on rebuilding and redevelopment work. A lot of it gets outsourced to service providers outside the valley. We want to strengthen our local economy, and support the outstanding work that these young and dynamic entrepreneurs are doing. Thats what this summit is for,” said Syed Mujtaba Rizvi, Founder and CEO of Gallerie One.
The two day summit also features a series of talks by various speakers on diverse subjects such as Managing Innovation, Socio-cultural essence of Kashmir, and Role of internet in creating service and product commerce. There will be 8 more sessions on day 2.
Gallerie One is the first ever centre for contemporary arts and research in Kashmir, featuring an art gallery, a digital media lab, a library, a research centre, and an archiving and cataloging centre. This historic landmark in the creative and cultural infrastructure in Kashmir is an initiative by Kashmir Art Quest and supported by J&K Department of Tourism.
