Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir (HCJK) leader and chairman Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah has reminded Barak Obama of his promise made during presidential elections that he’ll play role in resolving the Kashmir issue very soon.
“Obama during his India visit should stress upon India to resolve the long pending dispute of Kashmir which poses a threat to peace and stability in subcontinent as it is a bone of contention between two nuclear neighboring nations India and Pakistan,” Shah said in a statement.
Terming India’s arrogance and stubbornness as impediment in establishing peace in South Asia, Shah said, Pakistan as a prime party to Kashmir dispute is always coming forward to resolve the issue but India never showed sincerity or responded to it in positive manner.
We hope US president, by keeping in view the aspirations of the people of Kashmir, would stress upon Government of India to resolve the issue, and fulfill his promise kept in regard, Shah said.
He also expressed serious concern over the escalating border tensions between India and Pakistan and said the loss of civilians in frontier areas could only be saved if Kashmir issue gets resolved. “Otherwise, such skirmishes would continue.”
Meanwhile, criticizing authorities over harassing general public in view of Republic Day, party spokesman said, By subjecting people to severe humiliation through frequent frisking it has been clear that despite the might of 8 lakh forces India is not able to win trust of Kashmiris who still demand freedom from its occupation.
He also condemned the use of force by forces and STF in Pakherpora. Traders groups have observed shutdown in solidarity with people there and forces and STF have unleashed a reign of terror among people, the spokesperson said and warned forces of severe protests if it does not stop harassing people.
