SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry Saturday expressed concern over the handling of the Jahangir ChowkRam Bagh flyover and Khushhalsar filling.
As reported by certain sections of the press, filling of the Rambagh section of the flood spillage channel has been approved and this poses an imminent threat to the area in light of the recent floods, as a wet season is envisaged soon, the chamber said in a statement.
The concern of the breach of the banks of the river in case of a rise in the water level is real and needs immediate attention of the authorities. There are also reports of Khushhalsar filling and unabated construction in that area which is also a huge cause of concern as our water bodies act as sponges and they are being depleted at an alarming rate, it said.
The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry has urged the administration to look into the matter immediately before there is loss of precious lives and property ensuring that measures are taken, with appropriate action so that the trauma and shock that people have suffered in September 2014 is not repeated.
