Srinagar: Traders on Monday asked the Centre to immediately release relief package for the flood victims especially hapless traders and threatened to launch an agitation if it was not done at the earliest.
During a formal meeting of Al-Quds Traders (AQTF)Federation, the traders maintained that the BJP led Central government should immediately release relief package for the flood-hit people including traders of Jammu and Kashmir or face massive agitation by traders here.
The Federation president Abdul Rehman Reshi alleged that the government has turned a “blind-eye” towards the plight of the flood victims. “People of Kashmir wonder what the Central government is waiting for and why they are not expediting the rehabilitation process. How long will people take shelter in tents and at others’ houses? It won’t be long before the flood affected people take to roads and stir agitation against the Central Government, he said.
In a statement, Traders Federation said that thousands of houses and shops most of those not covered under Insurance schemes have been washed away and the state has so far provided them meager amount, which is injustice and unacceptable. The traders said that they will launch massive protests across Kashmir if grievances of the flood victims are not addressed in coming days. (CNS)
