SRINAGAR The family members of downtown Srinagar youth nicknamed Islamic Rage Boy by the Western media, Friday said that they are unaware about the whereabouts of their son.
They said that their son Shakeel Ahmed Bhat was rearrested by police soon after court directed them to release him from Udhampur jail on January 8 earlier this month.
Shakeel Ahmed Bhat resident of Malik Angan Fateh Kadal Srinagar is almost continuously in jail for past six years. He was arrested in 2008 on charges of organizing protests against police and authorities had slapped the controversial PSA on him 18 times after court quashed 17 PSA orders. He was released before Parliament elections but was arrested shortly before the start of Assembly polls.
The family members of Shakeel told CNS that he was released by court from Udhampur jail on January 8, however he was soon rearrested by police and taken to some unknown destination.
Since January 8, we are not in touch with our son and we dont know where he been imprisoned. We appeal to authorities to inform us about the location where the police has kept him, family members said.
Meanwhile while, castigating authorities for dis-honouring the court orders and even not disclosing the location of Shakeel to his family members, Democratic Political Movement General Secretary, Advocate Muhammad Shafi Reshi said that the family members of Shakeel are anxious about him and want to know about the state of his health. He alleged that authorities are trampling all the tenants of Indian democracy. (CNS)
