Life is precious than anything else and needs to be celebrated rather than wasted due to our negligent acts. Total number of deaths in road accidents in valley were higher than the number of lives lost in the past year due to militancy, he said.
The IGP while referring to the early morning accident at Rengi, Sopore in which seven precious lives including three members of one family were lost said that the objective of observing road safety week is that we should do all what is needed at individual and collective levels to avoid fatalities in road accidents.
We should take pledge to inculcate road safety habits such as avoiding use of mobiles during driving and ensuring use of crash helmets by us and our family especially young members, Mir said.
The IGP said that it has been found that some public transport drivers do take drugs and drive which leads to negligent and rash driving on their part. He exhorted upon the commuters to take a pledge not to let the drivers cross the prescribed speed limits.
