Srinagar: To commemorate the 67th Army Day, variety of welfare activities were organized under the aegis of Chinar Corps by the Army based at Pazgam, Trehgam, Haiderbegh, Sopore, Manasbal and Baramula on Monday. All spectra of the civil society took part in the event which included Blood Donation Camp, Majlis-e-Ustad, Interaction with Ex Servicemen, Motivational Seminars and indoor sports activities for the children of Baramulla District. Medical camp was also organized for people of far flung areas of Sopore valley.
In a statement, Defence spokesperson said that keeping up the highest traditions of Indian Army, troops of Hajipir Brigade, Trehagam voluntarily donated blood during a blood donation camp organized at the Primary Health Centre, Panzgam on 13 Jan 2015. The primary aim of this camp was to create awareness among the local population on the importance of blood donation as well as to provide invaluable stock of blood to various blood banks in the valley which can further be used to save precious lives. Soldiers from different Army units donated blood voluntarily during the camp wherein 100 units of blood was collected by a combined team of professionals from blood bank in District Hospital, Kupwara incl Medical Officers of PHC, Panzgam and two Army doctors and armillary staff. Brigadier S P Singh, Commander, Hajipir Brigade formally handed over the collected blood units to Dr. Mashrat, BMO Kupwara which was carefully packed & transported to the blood bank of District Civil Hospital, Kupwara using specialized containers where it will be preserved & will be further utilised to save live. The Majlish a- Ustaad, two days competition program was also opened up today at Trehgam Army Camp to judge the knowledge of Sumo drivers on the traffic rules, documentation and maintenance of the vehicle.
The Ex servicemen interaction was organized by the Haiderbegh based Army Brigade which was attended by approximately 250 veterans of Haiderbegh and nearby areas. The event was used as a platform to interact with the veterans wherein their problems were addressed and they were apprised of the latest schemes available with J&K Bank, SBI, Ex Servicemen Contributory Health Schemes, Field Post Office and others.
In order to provide medical awareness and medical advice to the needy Awaam, the fourth medical Camp was organized in the run up of Army Day by the Rashtriya Rifles unit based at Sopore alongwith local medical authorities of Sopore Health Department on Tuesday. The aim of the medical cum veterinary camp was to bring medical awareness and treatment of local populace in remote areas.
People of all age groups and genders have turned up in large number and participated with great enthusiasm and zeal making these events a huge success. The Chinar Corps will organize a series of initiatives and welfare activities for the Awaam all across the valley and will be spread over entire month of January 2015 to honour the gallant soldiers of the army and civilians who made supreme sacrifice for the country, in a run up of 67th Army Day 2015.
