SRINAGAR: J&K State Social Welfare Board and Institute of Hotel Management Rajbagh joined hands with Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir to organize a drawing competition on Road Safety by Physically Challenged Persons.
The programme was inaugurated by SDM Srinagar, Dr Syed Abid, IAS, in presence of Secretary, J&K State Social Welfare Board Aamir Ali, Principal Institute of Hotel Management Mr. Srivastava, Deputy Director (News) Doordarshan, Mr. Shafiq Ahmed Qureshi, Dy. Controller, Civil Defence, Nasir Khan and Dy. Chief Warden Civil Defence, Mauzam Bakshi. More than 50 Persons from across the Kashmir Division, having different physical disabilities, participated in the drawing competition.
The Valedictory function was chaired by Regional Transport Officer Kashmir, Mehmood Ahmed Shah, KAS and attended among others by Mehran Khan, State Coordinator Handicap International, ART0 Srinagar Mubashir Ahmed, Faculty Member IHM Javaid Ahmed Bhat and Junaid Baigh from J&K Mountaineering and Hiking Club judged the drawings based on the level of disability of the participants. Certificates of participation were given to all participants.
The first and third prizes with cash award of Rs 5000 and Rs 2000 were won by Miss Afreen Javaid and Mr. Mohammed Ashraf Bhat, both students of Deaf and Dumb School, Solina Rambagh. The second prize and cash reward of Rs 3000 was secured by Gurdeep Singh, hailing from lqbal Park, who got paralysis in both legs in a road accident, a few years ago and is presently working as a Psycho-social Counsellor with an NGO. Two consolation prizes of Rs 1000 each were given to Khursheed Ahmed and Lone Shabir. Cash prize, refreshments and drawing material for participants was arranged by Principal IHM Rajbagh. The concluding function of the Road Safety week will be held on 17th January.
