SRINAGAR: Dr Farooq Abdullah, who underwent a successful kidney transplant in London, was making good recovery on Monday.
Abdullah, 77, has been in London for sometime now after his kidney had failed earlier this year. He underwent a surgery on Sunday, his brother Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal disclosed adding that Omar Abdullah will leave for London after December 24 to be with his parents.
Kamal said that Farooq Abdullahs British wife Molly donated her kidney and both surgeries were successful.
The National Conference patron was ailing for some time and was on dialysis.
Due to his ailing health he was unable to take part in his party’s poll campaign for state assembly elections.
His son and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted this morning “Dad and mum’s surgery was a success and the new kidney has started functioning.” Omar, who could not be with his parents as they underwent the surgery because of ongoing elections in the state, thanked people saying “my family joins me in thanking all of U for yr support & prayers.”
Omar, who voted on Sunday, had tweeted “My thoughts are with my parents as they both prepare for surgery today. I wish I could be there with them but that wasn’t to be.” President of the ruling National Conference, Abdullah could not campaign for his party during the ongoing Assembly election
Kamal said that his party missed Farooq Abdullah during the poll campaign. Farooq Sahab is a charismatic leader and a great crowd puller. His absence was a loss for the party, he said.
