Handwara: Protestors blocked Baramulla-Handwara road and halted vehicular movement on Friday after an Army vehicle crushed a class-V student to death near Ganapora Langate.
Eyewitnesses said that a speedy Army vehicle hit an 11 year old girl student while she was walking on the one side of the road. The girl, whom police identified as Farhat Manzoor, daughter of Manzoor Ahmed Rather of Wangam Langate, died on the spot.
Soon after the incident residents came out of their houses and held protests. They kept the body of the deceased girl in the middle of the road resulting in massive traffic jam.
Reports said that people dispersed only after the assurances from police that guilty will be booked.
Meanwhile, an Army official said no Army vehicle was involved in the accident.
“Army does not do hit and run. There was no army vehicle in sight,” Col GS (information warfare) Brijesh Pandey said.
