Srinagar: Kashmir Development Front (KDF) chief Khwaja Farooq Renzushah has asked youth to maintain their real Kashmiri character and reject those political establishments who have spread immorality and allowed use of liquor and drugs during last 18 years deliberately.
In a statement he alleged that from 1996 to till date successive ruling parties officially distributed liquor licenses to their party workers in order to shape them as mobile voters. Those who are involved in immoral activities were officially encouraged by such political establishments.
From 1996 to 2002 more than 1500 wine licenses were issued. From 2002 to 2008 two thousand licenses were issued and from 2008 to till date more than 2000 wine and drug licenses have been issued and all these deliberate policies have ushered youth of our valley to undesirable activities, he said.
The KDF chairman said that there are instances when revenue received from the sale of wine and drug licenses is being transferred to different government departments for their expenditures as a matter of official routine.
It was because of this reason erstwhile Muslim Awqaf Board was an independent organization and was not using such funds for its expenditures. However after it was turned into Wakf Board funds generated by such trade is likely to be used by them also. Therefore for maintaining purity all respectable Imams who are on the pay rolls of Wakf Board should avoid use of such funds, Renzu said and hoped that entire population of J&K will support imposition of ban on liquor and drugs in J&K state.
