SRINAGAR: As the tenure of the present coalition government draws to the end, the political actors are itching for an early poll. The fresh threat by J&K Chief of Congress party Saifuding Soz, indicating that his party might pull out of the power-sharing coalition, is widely seen as benefiting the opposition PDP, which now hectically demands Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s resignation. Soz, otherwise a reticent politician, has set off a new war of words among the stakeholders.
While the opposition PDP is now ‘advising’ Congress to walk out of the “dead coalition”, the ruling National Conference is now cornering Soz for his controversial remarks about the Chief Minister’s refusal to hold a cabinet meeting.
Asking the state Congress to withdraw its support from government at the earliest, former deputy chief minister and PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Beigh Tuesday said that Congress should display courage and withdraw its support from the government as early as possible. It is the Congress that said chief minister Omar Abdullah has left for London to play golf and if it is right than why the Congress continues to support such a government.
The Parliament member from Baramulla said further that the chief minister of Bihar Nitesh Kumar resigned from the post of chief minister after suffering a rout during the Lok Sabha polls while as the chief minister Omar Abdullah continues to be in the chair. The fact is that until people will drag NC from the government, the party will continue to remain glued to the chair
He said that if Congress was so keen about its honour and respect than it must withdraw its support from the coalition government. Congress wants to remain in power so that it could utilize its officers during the upcoming elections but if there is rigging, there will be bloodshed and mayhem on the streets.
Meanwhile, in a scathing attack against the chief of its coalition partner, ruling National Conference Tuesday stated that Saif-ud-din Soz has lost command over his party and same gets vindicated by his earlier statements wherein he threatened against the survival of the government.
State Congress chief Saifudin Soz on Tuesday while talking to reporters said the government would fall if Chief Minister Omar Abdullah failed to convene a cabinet meeting at the earliest.
The State Congress chief had on Saturday asked the chief minister to convene a cabinet meeting to take a call on reservation of Scheduled Castes (SCs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and other important issues. A day ahead on August 15 function, Omar had announced reduction of electricity duty by 12 percent and declared reservation of 5 percent for Pahari speaking people and 2 percent for OBCs.
The ruling NC’s additional general secretary Mustafa Kamal said that Soz should not have made the fissures within the coalition public and that the internal issues could have been discussed in the CCC meet. If there were any grievances between the two parties, the same could have been addressed within the CCC meet. I fail to understand why Soz felt the urgent need to make the controversial comments before the newsmen.
He said that the statement of Soz wherein he has threatened the coalition proves that he has lost his command over his flock. It is the frustration of Soz that is speaking at present. He should have at least consulted his men before making such comments that are condemnable in nature.
Kamal questioned Sozs statement that government would fall if cabinet is not convened- stating that if the government functioned smoothly for almost five years and nine months, it would be bizarre that the government would cease to exist.
