Srinagar:   Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) Monday elected KHARA President Showkat Chowdhary as its new Chairman unanimously for the next term for the year 2014-2016.

Nine out of 12 affiliated members and nine founding members elected Showkat Chowdhary unopposed in the elections that was held at KEA office at 252, Jawahar Nagar.

Out of 18 members, only KHARA President had filed its nomination papers for the post of Chairman KEA.

“The nomination form of  Showkat Chowdhary was scrutinized by Election Committee and was approved after which his election as new KEA Chairman was unanimously agreed upon,” said Chief Spokesman KEA  M.Y Chapri.

He said maximum members of the KEA witnessed the elections who were satisfied with the proceedings.

“Since no other member had filed nomination papers for the post of Chairman so Showkat Chowdhary was unanimously elected as new Chairman for next two years,” said Chapri.

Farooq Dar, who was the ad hoc chairman of the KEA, said he fulfilled his responsibility properly and conducted the scheduled election on time.

“We had set 40 days of time for the election of new Chairman and new body which I did with the support of KEA members. Now new chairman has been elected and the constitution has also been framed which will be made public soon,” said Dar.

Dar said KEA has outlined the laws and bylaws of its Constitution which will be approved by the Managing Committee.

“After their approval for the Constitution, we will make it public.”

KEA will also elect its office bearers on Tuesday.

Dar said KEA tried its best to woo back the past KEA charirman in its fold and had kept nomination open for every member.“I tried my best to ensure that Past Chairman Mohammad Yasin Khan would take part in the election. The KCCI and FCIK had also intervened but Mohammad Yasin Khan remained reluctant. We have as per the promise held the elections and chose Chowdhary as Chairman,”said Dar.

Newly elected chairman Showkat Chowdhary said he would try his best to come up to the expectations of the business fraternity.

“We are now holding meeting tomorrow to elect the office bearers. On August 20, we will make our plans public through a press conference,” The work done in last three and a half years by Ex- Chairman  M Yaseen Khan was appreciated and applauded by Chowdhary.
