SRINAGAR: Kashmir’s key separatist groups are seeking release of prisoners and a halt in random arrests.
Terming the policies of government regarding the Kashmiri prisoners lodged in Kashmir and outside jails as inhuman and against the tenets of justice, Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said instead of releasing the Kashmiri prisoners, the government was adding more to their numbers by arresting people from across the valley.
Addressing a gathering at Masjid Malik Sahib Safakdal, Mirwaiz stated that it was highly regrettable that More than 18 youth alone were arrested in old city for peacefully protesting the Israeli aggression on Palestine.
Keeping up with the tradition, Mirwaiz stated that the coming Jumait-ul-vida would be observed as Youm-e-Kashmir and Youm-al-Quds.
A spokesman of Hurriyat Conference (G) alleged the police has arrested over 100 young men from across Valley, especially form Kulgam and Shopian.
He said more than 50 youth have fled homes to evade random arrest and the police has detained parents of those youth. “In this holy month of Ramzan where everybody is preparing for the Eid-ul-Fitr, the police have launched a worst kind of crackdown on the common people in the South Kashmir due to which the common citizens are living under the fear and they are forced to migrate from the area,” the spokesman said.
The spokesman said that the police have raided the houses of Asif Farooq Dar Dubran, Mohammad Rafeeq Wagay Dhonipora, Mohammad Adeeb Bhat Deva Colony, Asif Majeed Khan Deva Colony, Asif Ahmad Dar Deva Colony, Shaikh Asif Mushtaq Anchidora, Umar Dhobi Deva Colony, Irfan Ahmad Dangarpora, Yawar Ahmad Shairpora and Asgar Ahmad Khanabal.
Due to continuous police raids more than 100 youth have gone into hiding. According to the fresh reports, the police have started arresting the parents of the youth who have gone into hiding and they have detained 8 such innocent persons including Shakh Ghulam Hassan New Colony Hazratbal and Ghulam Qadir Najar Shairpora in the police stations so far, the spokesman said. He said that on 19 July CRPF killed a student Suhail Ahmad Lone in target fire and whatever happened after that was the just and natural reaction of the people.
The spokesman further said, “how can the police expect peace when they kill the innocent teenage students.” The statement termed the killing of unarmed people by the Indian forces and disallowing the mourning over the dead bodies by the state administration as the worst kind of state terrorism and said that this policy of government was alienating the people and their anger could erupt any time like the molten lava which will destroy everything and no power can stop it then.
The spokesman demanded the immediate release of all the detainees of Kulgam and Islamabad (Anantnag) and cautioned that the continuous crackdown on the people may have serious consequences and its responsibility will be on the shoulders of the government.
While terming the Governments announcement of magisterial enquiry into the Qaimo killing as bundle of lies and hoax, the spokesman said that these announcements are made for the sake of announcement and its main purpose is to cool down the anger of the people. The armed forces of India are protected by the black law like AFSPA which gives them the license to kill the innocent and unarmed Kashmiris and this law ensures them that they will not be prosecuted anywhere in the civil court and even the CM of the state is helpless in front of them.
History is witness of this that none of the enquiry or the investigation have ever been completed and nor has been any accused punished so far. The spokesman said that we are closely monitoring the situation in Islamabad (Anantnag) and Kulgam and if the excesses of the forces doesnt end in that area, the Hurriyat Conference will called a session and will formulate a strategy to deal with the situations.
Chief Spokesman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Mohammad Rafiq Dar has also condemned the “reign of terror unleashed by police and Indian forces” throughout the valley of Kashmir and termed it as glaring examples of “state sponsored terrorism.”
According to a statement the spokesman while condemning the nocturnal raids, arresting innocent youth, arresting fathers in place of their sons and brothers in place of their brothers, third degree torture of those arrested especially who are arrested in place of their relatives, demanding heavy ransom for the release of arrested and other oppressive measures by forces especially police, said that in this sacred month of Ramazan these police atrocities had risen to an alarming high. Spokesman said that police and forces have unleashed a reign of terror in Islamabad, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shupian, Sopore, Bandipora, Ganderbal and Srinagar.
Spokesman said that police in Kashmir has started using oppressive measures to frighten youth. Police stations have been turned into interrogation and torture centers and people are being ruthlessly beaten and tortured in these police stations. Referring to the reign of terror unleashed by police station Nowhata, spokesman accused SHO of this police station namely Parvaiz of committing atrocities, using abusive language against every citizen and in recent days torturing many kith and kin of wanted youth ruthlessly fracturing their legs and arms.
The spokesman said that this growing frustration and oppressive behavior of police and forces is pushing innocent youth to the wall and choking the space of peaceful protest and struggle. Spokesman while praising the gallant of those languishing in different jails said that on the occasion of EID these arrested people should be released. He said that the people who are spending their youth in jails including JKLF leaders Sheikh Nazir Ahmad and Showkat Ahmad Khan etc , for the freedom of Jammu Kashmir are our heros and Kashmiri nation owes them respect and gratitude . He said that recently another Kashmiri Maqsood Ahmad of Mamoosa Pattan has been sentenced to life imprisonment. This is again a case of judicial torture and condemnable act. According to Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir (HCJK) spokesperson, the amalgam which will be led by its leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, will offer Jummat-ul -Vida (Last Friday) prayers at Dargah Hazratbal on July 25 this month.
