SRINAGAR: Police on Saturday detained seven persons in connection with an attack on a policeman guarding Pakherpora shrine in central Kashmirs Budgam district. At the same time three policemen have been placed under suspension after initial inquiry established that all of them were absent from duty when the attack took place.
Official sources said that Special Operation Group (SOG) Pakherpora picked up seven suspected persons for questioning. However, they declined to disclose their identity.
Meanwhile, police authorities suspended three cops Shakeel Ahmad, Mohammad Shafi who were on unauthorized leave and Mohammad Altaf who had gone to market. All the men were supposed to be on duty along with the policeman Shabir Ahmad who was injured after assailants attacked him last evening.
Regarding the incident, sources said, the unknown militants at around 08:10 pm Friday barged inside guard room at Pakherpora and attacked Constable Shabir Ahmad with an iron rod on his head.
Later they opened trunk and decamped with three SLR rifles with 3 Magzines and 60 rounds, sources added. (GNS)
