IGP says Facebook’s many news pages are propagandist, warns action

SRINAGAR: Police on Wednesday registered cases against some ‘ant-social elements’ for spreading rumors by posting ‘frivolous and fake information’ on social networking sites particularly on Facebook.

A police spokesman in a statement said, “some mischievous elements have been identified who have been posting incorrect information on social are networking.

“The Face book pages indulging in posting such baseless information have been identified as  Kashmir News Agency, Loving Kashmir, Youths of Downtown-Kashmir, 24X7 Breaking News, Kashmir Banega Pakistan, Pahallan the city of Hurriyat G, Ganderbal News Agency, All (J&K) Breaking News Alert, True Muhajid, Election Boycott Bandipora, Voice of Kashmir Youth, Youths of Down Town and Voice of Unspoken Kashmir”, the spokesman said.

He said that police have registered cases against these Face book pages and the persons running these pages are being identified.

He further said that action has been initiated against the page Admins who have been found copying and pasting wrong information of the above pages.

Meanwhile, a senior police official said that more face book pages are under surveillance and action as per law will be taken if they are found violating norms.

He said the drive against such ‘rumor mongers’ will continue and asked people to remain cautious against such miscreants spreading false information over Facebook and other media in the valley.
