Kashmir Hails Mandela’s Conviction, Sagacity

SRINAGAR: Kashmir’s Pro-freedom camp while expressing grief over the demise of South African President Nelson Mandela, termed him the great inspiration for the suppressed people across the globe including the people of Kashmir.

Expressing his heart felt grief and sorrow over the demise of Mendela, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Yasin Malik termed him as an epitome of sacrifice.

Malik said that Mandela was a leader who has been and will remain as an iconic figure and inspiration for all oppressed nations striving for their freedom.

Malik said that Nelson Mandela remained in jail for 26 years, witnessed oppression and torture at the hands of apartheid regime, but never showed any sign of cowardice and never compromised on his principles.

Malik said that it was Nelson Mandela who, after winning freedom for his nation set another glaring example by forgiving his rivals and foes.

“Mandela followed the footsteps of our beloved Prophet (PBUH) and soon after assuming the office declared general amnesty. This ‘forget and forgive’ policy saved his nation from a blood bath and thus became his foremost act of leadership,” he said.

Huriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani said that Mandela was the great leader for his country and numerous sacrifices he rendered for his people have made history and provided inspiration to the people who are fighting for their rights in every corner of the world.

“He didn’t surrender despite so many tortures inflicted on him. He always tread the path of struggle till end and people of Kashmir salute this great man,” said Geelani.

His greatness could be understood by the fact that after his release from prison, he forgave even his strong rivals and enemies, Geelani said.

Huriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while expressing grief over Mandela’s demise, said that he was a great revolutionary of the present day world and strived throughout his life for the rights of his people. “The struggle of Mandela is a role model for the people and the leadership of the suppressed nations. They need to know the life of the great South African leader who, despite severe hardships, fought till the end for the rights of his nation.”

Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah termed Mandela a great hero of the modern times. Shah said that Mandela served his nation with sincerity and that his nation too followed him at every step. “When the people of Kashmir would follow their true leaders  they too will attain freedom from the occupation.”

Shah said that Mandela proved to be the most honest leader in the current world as he was not the power hungry person and never had the lust for the same.
