SRINAGAR: J&K Cultural Academy today organized a function to pay tributes to eminent Painter, Sculptor and Intellectual Gayoor Hassan who passed away on 16th of November 2013. The function was attended by prominent artists, writers and admirers of Gayoor Hassan who paid tributes and highlighted his life and contribution. The function was presided over by Gh. Nabi Khayal while former Secretary Academy Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, former Principal Institute of Music and Fine Arts Shabir Mirza, the son of Late Gayoor Hassan Nowshad Gayoor and Additional Secretary Cultural Academy, Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn were also in the presidium.
The speakers highlighted the contribution of Late Gayoor Hassan who was instrumental in drawing the historical sketches of various luminaries of the State which include Sultan Zain-ul-Abideen, Sultan Shuhab-u-din, Sheikh Sadi Sheerazi, Habba Khatoon and many more. Late Gayoor Hassan was a renowned figure in the international painters fraternity and won laurels for his contribution in the field.
Zaffar Iqbal Manhas remembered association of Gayoor with the Academy who illustrated many title cover designs for Academy publications and strengthened the art faculty. Gh. Nabi Khayal described him as an eminent painter, sculptor who commanded respect all over the country and his works are exhibited even outside the country.
Additional Secretary, J&K Cultural Academy Dr. A. S. Amn presented vote of thanks and the proceedings of the function were conducted by M. Ashraf Tak.
