SRINAGAR: The Police on Saturday lifted the house confinement restrictions imposed on Syed Ali Geelani, octogenarian Hurriyat leader. At around 9:00 am in the morning, the police party had left the venue, sources in Hurriyat (G) said.
A spokesperson of Geelani confirmed that the siege has been lifted. The police has left early this morning from the residence of Geelani saheb, said Ayaz Akbar.
Pertinently, the state authorities set Geelani free on 29 October after house arresting him for 235 days since March this year when he came back from New Delhi.
Just after his release from his house arrest, Geelani toured many towns of Kashmir addressing large gatherings but his freedom lasted only for a few days after he was put under house arrest again on 16 November ahead of scheduled address to people of Palhallan on the next day, Sunday (17 November).
Also, Geelani was barred from addressing a press conference on last Thursday by police.
