SRINAGAR: A police constable was injured critically after being shot by suspected militants near Janglat Mandi area of Anantnag town late Friday evening.
A senior Police official said that militants attacked police post Janglat Mandi resulting in severe injuries to a policeman.
The injured cop, who sustained bullet injury in neck was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital from where he was later rushed to SMHS hospital here in Srinagar in critical condition, the official said.
He identified the injured cop as Constable Abdul Rashid Tantaray (belt no. 1287/A) son of Abdul Salam Tantaray, a resident of Gundrahman, Tulmullah Ganderbal.
The gunmen according to reports decamped with the service rifle of the policeman.
Soon after the attack, SOG, Police and CRPF cordoned off the area and started search operation to nab the assailants.
