NC, PDP welcome Mirwaiz statement

SRINAGAR:  A day after Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that Hurriyat (M) is ready for ‘Vajpayee-type’ dialogue with New Delhi, mainstream parties have welcomed it and hoped that in near future there would a meaningful dialogue process between the separatists and Government of India.

National Conference said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is repeatedly saying that Government of India is ready to talk to separatist leadership and the statement made by Mirwaiz is not only encouraging but a positive one.

NC senior leader Ali Muhammad Sagar told CNS that New Delhi should encourage separatist leaders especially Mirwaiz for a dialogue so that peace will prevail in Jammu and Kashmir.

“NC welcomes the statement of Mirwaiz and we wish there should be meaningful dialogue between one faction of Hurriyat and New Delhi. Omar Abdullah wishes that Hurriyat leaders should sit across the table and we hope that Mirwaiz would take an initiative in this regard,” Sagar said adding that at the end of the day separatist leaders are supposed to come across the table and resolve the issue through dialogue.

Peoples Democratic Party said that every initiative for the dialogue is welcomed. Talking to CNS, party spokesperson Nayeem Akhtar said that the Government of India (GoI) must seriously address the issue and open all channels of interaction and dialogue with separatists.

“It is the duty of the GoI to be proactive on this front. PDP has always not just advocated the dialogue but encouraged and facilitated it when it was in power. Then Deputy Prime Minister L.K.Advani and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh have had rounds of dialogue with separatists and it is necessary to revive that spirit and approach,” Akhtar said.

He further said that New Delhi must give respect to separatist leaders as they deserve it because they represent an important point of view on Kashmir, which can’t be ignored.

Chairman Awami Itihaad Party Engineer Rasid while reacting to the statement of Mirwaiz said that it is the duty of Mirwaiz to take Syed Ali Geelani and Muhammad Yasin Malik into confidence before starting any dialogue process with the GoI.

“Does Mirwaiz assert that there was a breakthrough on Kashmir issue during Vajpayee regime? Can he assure the people of Kashmir that talks with GoI would be meaningful and if he feels so then he should go ahead,” Rashid said adding that AIP never doubts the integrity of Mirwaiz but feels that any dialogue with GoI should be fruitful and result oriented.

Democratic Political Party (Nationalist) Chairman and Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hasan Mir said that he welcomes the attitude and approach of Mirwaiz and hope that separatist leadership would sooner or later go for a dialogue with the Government of India.

“Confrontation can lead us nowhere but the solution to every problem lies in dialogue. I hope that separatist leadership would show positive approach and sit across the table,” Mir said.

Peoples Democratic Front Chairman, Hakim Muhammad Yasin said that Mirwaiz has a good thinking and he hopes that he would initiate dialogue process with GoI without any delay. “I welcome the statement of Mirwaiz but India should display a sense of sincerity and should take separatists on board so that Kashmir issue could be resolved,” he said adding that people of Kashmir have suffered heavily from past six decades and now time has come that this long pending issue should be resolved through meaningful dialogue.
