SRINAGAR: Sale of layer chicken has been banned in Srinagar with immediate effect, a senior officer of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) said.
The SMC health officer said the sale of layer chicken has been banned within the limits of SMC with immediate effect.
These layer chicken has no food value so it has been decided to ban its sale, he said. He warned that stern action would be taken against the traders who are found selling layer chicken in Srinagar.
However, there is no ban on other chickens, he said but asked traders not to cause any damage to environment.
Kashmir valley is importing poultry birds worth several crores of rupees annually from different states of the country, particularly Punjab.
