Why secular state treats followers of Amarnath and Imam Hussain Differently?
SRINAGAR: President Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP) and MLA Langate Er Rashid has strongly condemned strict restrictions imposed by the administration to stop Moharram processions in Srinagar.
In a statement issued today he said that the govt. had turned whole of the Srinagar into a battle field and common people including elderly, women and children faced wrath of security agencies.
Every year lakhs of Amarnath Yatries visit Kashmir and their number is increasing every year while Muslim community tries its best to accommodate them even at the cost of ecological, social and environmental hazards. The entire state govt. machinery remains on its tows and seems to be run by the governor during the Yatra period, just to ensure that Yatries do not face any problem in performing their religious obligations. However when it comes to the natives of the Kashmir, Govt. of India through its collaborators in the state administration impose strict restrictions whether it is Eid prayer or Moharram processions, Rashid said.
MLA accused govt of interference in religious affairs of Kashmiri Muslims thus exposing its so called secular credentials.
He further added that though Kashmir issue is purely political in nature but the govt. by giving different treatment to devotes of Amarnath and Imam Hussain (RA), turns the issue into religious one.
He further said, Kashmiri Muslims have every right and reason to claim that J&K is a religious dispute as they are being treated as second class citizens for being members of Muslim community.
Er Rashid warned state administration that it should not succumb to the political setup every time but must act according to their conscience also.
