SRINAGAR: At a time when demand for disbanding Village Defense Committees (VDCs) is gaining momentum, the Government has said that elementary training courses are being organized for SPOs and volunteers working in the VDCs so as to enhance their musketry skills and make them capable of retaliating any attack from the militants.
To a query raised by National Panthers Party member, Balwant Singh Mankotia what steps are being taken to strengthen the VDCs, the government in written reply has said that that volunteers working in these committees have been provided with weapons to enable them to repulse any terrorist attack.
Government has said that the working of VDCs was under constant review.
