Srinagar: Police foiled the UN Cahlo March of one of the constituent organs of Hurriyat (G) on Monday. Scores of workers of Democratic Political Movement (DPM) headed by party chairman Firdous Ahmed Shah assembled near Abi-Guzar Srinagar and tried to proceed toward UN office located at Sonawar Srinagar.
Police swung into action and arrested dozens of party workers including Firdous Ahmed Shah, Mohammad Imran, Lateef Ahmed Manzoor, Bashir Ganderbali, Pir Hilal and Bashir Ahmed Parrey.
DPM workers were carrying placards and banners seeking an end to human rights violations and killings in Kashmir Valley.
General Secretary of the party, Advocate Mohammad Shafi Reshi told reporters that this March was taken out to remind UN of its obligations towards the resolution of Kashmir issue. All but 18 resolutions have been passed in UN in relation with Kashmir issue. Our party had decided to present a memorandum at UN office, however, we were not allowed to do so, Reshi said adding that DPM supports the election boycott call given by Syed Ali Geelani.
We would also under take a door-to door campaign urging people to be away from electoral process, he said. (CNS)
