SRINAGAR: PhD Scholars possessing NET and SET degrees Monday staged a peaceful protest in Press Enclave Srinagar demanding that the case regarding the filling up of posts of Assistant Professors pending in High Court should be taken up on fast track basis so that they could get opportunity to appear in the examinations for the said posts advertised by Public Service Commission.
One of the scholars said that PSC vide number 09-PSCDR-P of 2013 dated 23-5-2013 issued a notice seeking the filling up of posts for Assistant Professors in Higher Education Department. PSC in its notice has set PhD, NET and SET as eligibility.
The eligible candidates submitted their forms but unfortunately, candidates having M.Phil degrees approached the High Court demanding that they should also be made eligible for these posts. Accordingly the Court put the proceedings in abeyance, Dr Imtiyaz Ahmed said.
The Scholars said that the last three hearings in the Court did not take place. We demand that either Court should take a swift decision in this regard or declare its stay null and void. It would take years for Court to reach to any conclusion and this way we would not be able to seek jobs in time, they said.
They said that they have no grudge with M.Phil degree holders but what they want is the speedy verdict on part of the court so that their precious time would not go waste.
Despite repeated attempts, the Higher Education Minister could not be contacted.
