SRINAGAR: In order to review logistic facilities at GMC Srinagar, in view of enhancement of intake capacity for MBBS course, Minister for Medical Education and Youth Services and Sports Mr. Taj Mohi-ud-Din today visited the college and undertook marathon discussions with the faculty and administration.
The Minister directed augmentation of space for students for which he asked the Principal to prepare to complete a proposal and submit it to the Government.
Mr. Taj also directed removing bottlenecks coming in the way of career advancement of the faculty. He also directed adoption of Continuous Medical Evaluation (CME) for the professional assessment of faculty. He asked the faculty to work with zeal so that the college regains its past glory.
The Minister also directed the delegation of powers of deputation to conferences, seminars, workshops of faculty members to the Dean/Principal.
The Minister also reviewed the hostel accommodation of students and other recreational facilities available to them.
The meeting was told that GMC has affiliated bed strength of 2300 beds at present and is capable to admit around 250 students annually.
It may be recalled that yesterday the Government decided to operationalize the increased intake capacity of 150 MBBS seats in State run Medical Colleges of J&K from current session only.
