Srinagar: A day after UPA endorsed creation of a separate Telangana state, National Panthers Party on Wednesday demanded the splitting of Jammu and Kashmir and the creation of a Jammu as separate state.
NPP senior leader Harish Dev Singh said that voices in favor of a separate state of Jammu are gaining momentum and we will launch a campaign to press the government of India for separate Jammu.
The carving out of a new Jammu state out of the present Jammu and Kashmir is an extremely genuine and viable demand of the people of Jammu region, Singh said.
The discrimination has continued. Regional imbalances are at galore. People of Jammu region cannot be made to suffer for long. Time has come that Jammu should be separated from Kashmir, he said, adding, Centre should go for reorganizing of states and they should announce Jammu for a separate state. We will go for agitation if they fail to do so, he added.
Meanwhile, scores of Shiv Sena activists protested in Jammu to press for their demand to create a separate state by bifurcating Jammu & Kashmir.
Pertinently the decision by the Congress party endorsing the creation of Telangana as the Indias 29th state came after years of street protests, hunger strikes and even suicides by the activists seeking the separate state. (KNS)
