Srinagar: To underscore the various academic and extension activities accomplished by the Directorate during the year 2011-2012 the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) University of Kashmir released its first ever news letter DDE Times during an impressive function which was held at the conference hall of the Directorate on Wednesday.
Addressing the faculty members and student representatives enrolled for different programs at the Directorate Vice Chancellor KU Prof Talat Ahmad while releasing the newsletter said The distance learners face lot of difficulties and challenges than those who are enrolled in regular mode of education. Therefore, under such circumstances it becomes more important for us to provide them equal opportunities and facilities as are provided to the students in regular mode.
Prof Talat while maintaining that providing quality education is very important alongwith further expansion and extension of education both in regular and distance mode said While going for further extension and launching of new programs and courses we must keep it in mind that there should be no compromise on quality of education and standard of education being imparted to the students has to be upheld at any cost.
Prof Talat said that he is very keen to see KU`s distance education emerging as a knowledge hub in the state of J&K for which he said University is making strenuous efforts to make sure that centres of distance education get established in its various satellite campuses.
Prof Talat said that it is the responsibility of the authorities at the directorate to see to it that the teaching and study material is being updated and revised regularly so that both the teachers and the students are abreast with the changing trends in their respective areas of research and study.
Speaking on the occasion Dean Academic Affairs KU Prof AM Shah said that the distance mode of education has a huge potential in the state and KU`s distance program has grown tremendously over the years which indicates that if we continue our hard work and sincere efforts there will be day when the state will have a full-fledged Distance education University.
Prof Shah also said that those who get enrolled in distance education at KU are a highly competent lot and it is the responsibility of the University to provide them better facilities of infrastructure and opportunities in job-placements.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Director, CCPC Prof Shabir A. Bhat and Head, Department of Business and Financial Studies Prof Mohi-ud-din Sangmi.
Earlier in her welcome address Director Distance education Prof Neelofar Khan while presenting a brief profile of the directorate said that the newsletter is a catalog of the various activities carried out by the directorate during the year 2011-2012 and provides an insight into the various extension programs, seminars, conferences and counseling and placement drives undertaken at the directorate for the overall betterment of the students.
Besides several Deans of Faculties and Heads of various departments many faculty members and students representatives enrolled at Directorate were present on the occasion.
The proceedings of the function were conducted by Ms Naheed Ruhee Associate Professor at DDE while as the newsletter has been edited by Showkat Rashid Assistant Professor at DDE KU.
