SRINAGAR: Two minors were among four persons who drowned in separate incidents across the valley, police said today.
A police spokesman here said 7-year-old Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Hassan of Tangchek drowned in a water reservoir at Tangchek Sogam in north Kashmirs Kupwara district. The body was fished out and handed over his relatives for last rites, he said.
In another similar incident, he said, 12-year-old Ashiq Husain Ganaie son of Bashir Ahmad of Lalpora, Kupwara drowned while taking bath in a water reservoir at Rethnag Lalpora in the same district. The body was fished out and handed over his relatives for last rites, he said.
Separately, he said, that two boys Abdul Qayoom Sheikh son of Asadullah Sheikh and Mohammad Altaf Sheikh son of Mohammad Maqbool of Checki-Pohru, drowned in river Jhelum at Baghi Shakoor Shah, Nowgam here while swimming. Police was on job to recover the bodies till reports last came in Monday evening.
Meanwhile, while extracting sand from river Jhelum at Shilvat in northern Bandipore district, sand miners found a body of a person and informed in Police Station Sumbal. Police reached on the spot and the body was identified as that of Idress Hussain Bhat son of Ghulam Hussain Bhat resident of Indra Nagar as per the identity card, found on him.
