Pattan: Police on Thursday arrested two persons from frontier district Kupwara for illegally carrying hundreds of banned Cores bottles in their vehicle near Palhalan area of Pattan town. The cough syrup is used by youth as a replacement for alcohol.
Station House Officer Pattan, Mehboob Bandey said that police intercepted a Maruti (JK09-3491) near Palhalan Pattan and recovered hundreds of banned Corex bottles. Two persons namely Shabir Ahmed Mir son of Ghulam Mohi-u-Din resident of Batargam Kupwara and Fayaz Ahmed son of Ghulam Mohammad of Bahipora Kupwara were arrested and there vehicle was seized by the police, he said.
Police has registered a case vide FIR number 151/2013 under section 48/50 of Excise Act.
There has been an increase in the consumption of non-alcoholic addictive substances in the recent past in Pattan area. (CNS)
