SRINAGAR- A joint delegation of the Voluntary Health Association of India, New Delhi, and J&K Voluntary Health and Development Association, Srinagar, called on Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here this afternoon.
The delegation, led by Mr. Alok Mukhopadhyay, Chief Executive, Voluntary Health Association of India, New Delhi and Convener of the Independent Commission on Development & Health in India, comprised Mr. A. M. Mir, Executive Director, J&K Voluntary Health and Development Association, and Ms. Bhavna Mukhopadhyay, Executive Director, Tobacco Control Project. They briefed the Governor about the to-date status of their activities as well as about their future action plans at the national level and through the J&K Association for dealing with public health issues, particularly those aimed at enlarging awareness about the prevention and promotion of Non-Communicable Diseases, specially Diabetes and Cancer.
Mukhopadhyay, Mr. Mir and Ms. Bhavna thanked the Governor for his strong support to the work of their organizations and associated stakeholders as a result of which Jammu and Kashmir has achieved tremendous progress in the control of consumption of tobacco.
The Governor complimented Mr. Mukhopadhyay and the Voluntary Health Association of India and Mr. Mir and the J&K Voluntary Health and Development Association for the commendable work being done under their care and assured them all possible support in achieving the objectives of both the Associations.
