GANDERBAL: Protests rocked sub district hospital Ganderbal this evening when a dead body brought in for post mortem remained unattended for more than an hour.
People vent their fury on hospital administration by shouting slogans against the authorities.
The doctor on duty for causality ward allegedly refused to do the post mortem. When block medical officer too refused to do the job, protests broke-out.
An angry mob blocked the Ganderbal-Manasbal road at Duderhama chowk and stopped the vehicular moment for more than two hours.
Massive traffic jam left thousands of passengers stranded.
Reports said Ali Mohammad Parray, son of Mohammad Ramzan Parray, a 55 year old manual labour from Wayil Ganderbal was missing from his home since . During the due course of time, he was searched by his relatives in all parts of the district but they found no traces of him.
On Monday evening at about 5:00pm, a woman while walking along her fields saw something strange lying in an irrigation canal locally known as Padshah Koul at Nunar Ganderbal. She immediately called some locals who sent message to Wayil asking locals for help identify the body.
The body was shifted to SDH Ganderbal, However delay by the hospital administration in conducting post mortem lead the angry mob to shout slogans against health department and concerned ministry. They gathered at Duderhama chowk, jammed traffic and held a massive protest.
The protesters accused sub district hospital staff for negligence in dealing with patients. They also shouted slogans against the officials.
The doctor on duty in emergency unit of SDH while talking to this reporter said that he is an ophthalmologist and is not specialised in performing post mortem. That’s the only reason he refused to do that.
Meanwhile Additional Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal rushed to SDH and took stock of the situation. He assured the protesters for appropriate action against the hospital negligence.
The traffic moment was later restored after the post mortem was conducted and the body handed over to the relatives
